Senex Energy Awarded Two New Exploration Blocks in Queensland
ASX-listed Senex Energy Ltd. has been awarded preferred tenderer status for block PLR2020-1-13 in the Surat basin and PLR2020-1-9 in the Bowen basin, as part of Queensland Government’s domestic gas acreage tender process.
PLR2020-1-13 covers an area of 18 sq. km located in the Surat basin. The work programme on the block includes drilling approximately 30 wells and related downstream infrastructure through future investment. The block is estimated to contain proved (1P) reserves of approximately 16 Petajoule (PJ) of gas, and proved and probable (2P) reserves of approximately 41 PJ of gas.
PLR2020-1-9 covers an area of 486 sq. km located in the Bowen basin. The block overlies a large regional fault system extending through to the Scotia and Peat fields, providing potential for high permeability and gas content. Work programme on the block includes conducting geological studies, acquisition of 2D seismic data and the drilling of 1 exploration well over the next 4 years.
“Senex is uniquely positioned to contribute to Australia’s gas-fired recovery from the COVID-19 recession. Senex is a material new entrant in a strong domestic market with high barriers to entry. We are increasing the supply of natural gas on the east coast to help our manufacturing sector, and we are here for the long term. Queensland Government’s award of acreage to Senex strengthens our ability to leverage our established hub-and-spoke infrastructure model for accelerated supply of affordable natural gas to the domestic market”, said Ian Davies, Senex’s Managing Director & CEO.
Brisbane-based Senex currently holds a diversified portfolio of conventional and unconventional onshore oil and natural gas assets in the Cooper and Surat basins.
