Angola’s Agência Nacional de Petróleo, Gás e Biocombustíveis (ANPG) has awarded three deepwater exploration blocks in the Namibe Basin, as part of its 2019 Bidding Round. Block winners include international majors Eni SpA, Equinor ASA and BP Plc, who will hold interests in the blocks in partnership with state-controlled Sociedade Nacional de Combustíveis de Angola EP (Sonangol). The awarded blocks are all located off the coast of Namibe Province in south-western Angola, a region considered to be a frontier basin since no hydrocarbons have been discovered or produced from the area till date. Bidding for the blocks had closed in November 2019 as part of Angola’s first public auction since the 2011 Pre-Salt Bidding Round.
